Next week we’re studying Acts 1-5 for our Come Follow Me family scripture study. And this morning, I woke with the fierce desire to create a watercolor print for my family {and all of you} that goes along with a story in one of the chapters.
Chapter 2 contains the beautiful account of Peter testifying of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. His words are bold and full of the Spirit. And upon hearing his words, his listeners were pricked in their hearts and asked Peter and the other apostles, “What shall we do?” (Acts 2:37).
I love Peter’s simple reply to repent, be baptized, and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. His answer contains the basic and simple first principles and ordinances of the gospel.
When was the last time you were pricked in your heart by the Holy Ghost? What were you inspired to do as a result?
This story is a beautiful way to introduce the principle of personal revelation and faith-filled action to our families.
We can go to church, listen to the prophets, and read God’s word, but if we don’t act on what we learn, and do something in faith, it benefits us little.
Acting in faith transforms us into better disciples of Jesus Christ.
What would happen if every lesson, every scripture feast was concluded with a simple question in our hearts? “What shall we do?”
Let’s have the faith and courage to find out.
To help you in this endeavor, I have created a watercolor for you to print and keep in your scripture journal or hang in your home. Each week as you study the scriptures or Come Follow Me whether personally or with your family, write down ideas you have to act in faith on what you have learned. Ask the Spirit to teach you what the Lord would have you do. Then add to it each day or each week. As the rest of this year progresses, and you fill the page with good works, you can reflect on your your actions and just how far you’ve come.
I hope this print is helpful for you and that as you step out in faith, you will feel the Lord’s love.
Love, Jamie
