Out on the post in the horse corral
was the prettiest bird I’ve ever seen around our parts
We grabbed binoculars and focused them in
on this vibrant large bird with black body
and bright yellow head and chest
It practically glowed.
The whole family gathered around the living room window to see.
Funny how something so simple could make our day.
I looked it up quick to find out its name online
A yellow-headed blackbird
but it’s prettier in real life than any image online.

For our Sunday family lesson we talked about
how all things point to Christ–
everything.
Each person picked one thing and then pondered how it could teach about the Savior.
Cooper – Mom is an example of Jesus Christ because she loves us and cares for us.
Maylie – Lottie reminds us that our Savior created all things for us.
Tate – a Diamond is made from coal under great pressure. As we go through our trials we can become polished and more like Jesus Christ. Our Savior suffered the Atonement for us. He is the perfect diamond.
Easton – a Worm can easily be found on a rainy day, just like our Savior can easily be found on our days of storms and trial.
Patrick – the Stairs are the only way to get to our upstairs, just like our Savior is the only way back to our Heavenly Father.
Then I gave them a principle of the gospel to tie back to Christ:
Cooper – The Golden plates were written Jesus Christ through the prophets. We can let the Savior write the stories of our lives as well.
Maylie – Peace is found in and through Jesus Christ. “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give unto you; Not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27
Tate – Christ taught us in all He did and said the principle of Charity, the pure love of Christ.
Easton – The First Presidency speaks the words of Jesus Christ for our church.
Patrick – The Savior went to the prisoners in spirit prison to minister to them after his death.
Me – The Savior taught us to avoid profanity by giving us the perfect example of glorifying His Father with all He said. His words were holy, clean, pure ,uplifting, hopeful, encouraging, joyful, grateful, and always praising the Lord and bringing Him glory. We can follow His example.
