It was just one of those ordinary August days and my little princess girl who was 3 1/2 at the time, was having quite the royal fit. Usually, this would ignite my frustration, but this day I tried something different.
I sat down beside her on the floor, scooped her up in my arms and held her close. After a few minutes of just holding her and breathing calmly, her tears stopped, but her grumpiness remained.
Just then, I happened to look out the picture window we were sitting beneath, and saw the clouds nestled up in the bright blue sky.
“Look!” I motioned towards the window, “The clouds are so puffy!”
That’s all it took.
For the next few minutes we laughed together, discovering frogs with wings, cats with stocking caps, and ducks swimming in a bathtub.
Simple cloud-watching had restored her cheeriness and my sense of wonder.
When was the last time you watched the clouds? Could you take a few minutes today?
It’s just one simple way to invite into your day a little more wonder.
